Port of Spain, Trinidad, 22 November 2013.
The Alliance Française of Trinidad and Tobago hosted a successful event celebrating the 2013 vintage of the Beaujolais Nouveau on Thursday evening at the French Ambassador's Residence in St. Clair. French speakers, members of the diplomatic community and wine-lovers gathered to share the first wine of the 2013 harvest, described by local wine connoisseur and sommelier Phyllis Moreau as "light, fruity, almost frivolous, perfect with Asian food, and created to be shared with good friends and family." Ambassador of the French Republic Jacques Sturm reminded guests that the world-wide celebration takes place every year on the third Thursday in November, and represents 20 percent of annual Beaujolais sales. "My colleagues in Castries, Kingston and Paramaribo are at this moment celebrating this vintage, just as we do in Trinidad and Tobago, and as other lovers of French culture all over the world."
Local band Overdrive performed a selection of French and Trini calypso and jazz classics, while Drink! On Location served the wine imported by Fernandes Fine Wines, paired with traditional French patés, cold cuts and classic cheeses from Malabar Gourmet Shop. An array of desserts created by the Embassy and the French Community ended the evening on a high note.
